Days of the Week

Italiano A1A16. Unit 6: Numbers and Time

Days of the Week in Italian

Welcome to Unit 6! In this lesson, you will learn the seven days of the week in Italian. Unlike in English, days of the week are not capitalized in Italian unless they start a sentence.

The Seven Days

Notice that all days except sabato and domenica end with an accented vowel (-dì) and are masculine. Most of these days take the masculine article il (e.g., il lunedì means ‘on Mondays’). Domenica is feminine (la domenica).

Common Mistake

Remember not to capitalize the days! Write lunedì, not Lunedì, when writing in the middle of a sentence.
