Unit 7 Review: Daily Routine & Verbs
Welcome to the Unit 7 Review! Let’s practice everything you have learned about regular -ere and -ire verbs, as well as the essential modal verbs: volere (to want), potere (to be able to), and dovere (to have to).
1. Regular -ere and -ire Verbs
Remember how verbs change depending on who is doing the action. For example, prendere (to take) becomes prendo (I take), and finire (to finish) becomes finisco (I finish, using the -isc- suffix).
- Prendo un caffè. (I take a coffee.)
- Tu finisci il lavoro. (You finish the work.)
2. Modal Verbs (Volere, Potere, Dovere)
Modal verbs are followed by an infinitive verb (the base form ending in -are, -ere, or -ire).
- Voglio dormire. (I want to sleep.)
- Posso uscire? (Can I go out?)
- Devo lavorare. (I have to work.)
Common Mistake: Do not conjugate the second verb! Say voglio mangiare (I want to eat), not voglio mangio.
